Tennis Court Infill Sand

Tennis Court Infill Sand from Tennis Court Supplies

We supply coloured sports sand designed for use as tennis court infill on artificial grass, artificial clay, and padel courts. Available in turf green, stadium blue, and terracotta, our infill sand is engineered to deliver long-lasting performance and excellent playability.

Why Infill Sand Matters

Modern court surfaces, including synthetic grass and artificial clay, consist of a carpet layer that relies on infill sand for stability. Infill keeps the carpet pile upright and, in the case of artificial clay, also supports player movement by allowing controlled sliding.

Over time, sand levels reduce due to weather, brushing, and foot traffic. That is why topping up court infill is part of regular maintenance. How much infill needed depends on the surface type. For example, on artificial clay courts, it is important to top up when the carpet pile is no longer covered by at least 1mm of sand.

However, not all sand is created equal!! If you use the wrong type of infill - or a low-quality one - it may affect ball bounce, drainage, and even lead to surface damage over time.

What Makes a High-Quality Tennis Court Infill?

There are three main components that determine the quality of sports infill sand: the base sand, the colour pigment, and the coating resin. Let’s take a closer look at each.

Base Sand

A high-quality infill starts with high-grade silica sand. The best blends are created from multiple sources to ensure consistent properties. The sand grains should be naturally rounded rather than sharp-edged. Rounded grains are gentler on the carpet pile, whereas angular grains can cause abrasion over time.

Equally important is drainage. The sand must have high permeability and low bulk density to help water pass through easily making your court playable after rain.

Colour Pigment

Many coloured sands use synthetic organic pigments - these can fade or even turn pink after prolonged exposure to UV light. We use iron oxide pigment instead. It is a natural, non-toxic, and highly stable pigment that offers excellent colour fastness. Iron oxide is also a more sustainable choice.

Coating Resin

Finally, the coating. Quality tennis court infill sand is lightly coated in resin to improve durability, reduce dust, and help the sand resist compaction. Once cured, the resin helps prevent the sand from absorbing too much water, which is vital for good drainage and surface longevity.

Our Infill Sand – Tested, Trusted, and Proven

Tennis InfillThe infill sand we supply ticks all the boxes for quality and performance. It is blended from a range of silica sources and carefully graded. The UK manufacturer uses natural, rounded quartz sand, which is kind to your court’s carpet pile.

The colouring uses iron oxide pigment for best-in-class colour fastness, and the resin coating has a life expectancy up to five times greater than traditional PU or epoxy coatings. This plays a big role in maintaining the sand’s structure and, importantly, the court’s drainage.

Lab-Tested by Labosport®

In July 2023, our sand was tested by Labosport Group, a global leader in sports surface testing and certification. The test results speak for themselves:

• Permeability: Over 30 times the minimum rate required by the LTA.

• Hydrophobic properties: The resin coating actively repels water, helping the sand dry faster and reducing the growth of moss and lichen in damp conditions.

We’re happy to provide the full Labosport® accredited test report upon request.

Customer Feedback

Since its launch in 2022, our tennis court infill has been supplied to clubs, contractors, and venues across the UK. The response has been excellent, with many repeat orders from professional installers.

Here’s what Banstead Downs Tennis Club in Surrey had to say:

“The price of the product was highly competitive to our last purchase elsewhere 22 months ago. We were pleased to receive a British product … A five-star experience. The texture and grain size is good. The professional maintenance team deemed it a good product and enjoyed completing the job with it. From the first games played on the serviced surface, comments and ratings were highly favourable.”

In Summary

Choosing the right tennis court infill is crucial for keeping your artificial surface in top playing condition. The sand needs to drain well, resist compaction, and maintain its colour and texture over time.

Our infill is manufactured in the UK by a specialist in coloured sports sands and is backed by independent lab testing. It is a product we trust - and one our customers are confident in.
